JOIN MY UPCOMING FREE PAINTING WORKSHOP

Life is Surreal:

Learning the Art of Surrealistic Portraiture

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be hosting a free workshop, "Value Painting," and you’re invited!

In this session, you’ll learn what value is and how it can be used to create form. We will explore how mastering these tones provides the structure and depth needed to bring your subjects to life on the canvas.

Through a step-by-step demonstration of a value painting exercise, I’ll explain the process and show you exactly how it is used to paint underpaintings. This session is designed to give you a clear, foundational roadmap, helping you build the technical confidence to translate your vision into a finished work of art.

Hey, I'm Christen

I began my art journey when I was very young, learning and practicing how to master drawing the human face. I grew and evolved in my art practice and am now a full-time artist with 10 years of experience. Over the years, I have created a body of work that reflects the beauty of Black culture.

My work, which primarily uses acrylic paint, builds on the legacy of African American art by providing a counter-narrative to Eurocentric perceptions. I use vivid color and complex compositions to capture the depths of the Black human experience and its universal qualities. My pieces, which often feature human figures and portraits, are rooted in surrealism to tell stories that go beyond the visual. Through my art, I aim to challenge perceptions and inspire new ideas, allowing viewers to connect with each piece psychologically and emotionally.

Art has become my voice, a tool to show that the possibilities are endless and that Black people can occupy any space, both real and imagined.
